Kybella® at MOBO Med Spa

KYBELLA®

Kybella injections are a non-invasive in office treatment used to treat submental fullness - otherwise known as the double chin. KYBELLA® is administered as a series of injections to the treatment area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results. Everyone's chin profile is different, so your injector will evaluate and tailor a treatment to you. The number of treatment sessions will vary based on the amount of fat under the chin and your treatment goals.

Kybella Injections
The Science Of

KYBELLA®

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-care for Kybella

1-2 days before…
If possible avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, aleve and fish oil as this may increase bruising. Avoid excessive alcohol the night before.

Post-care for Kybella

Immediately after…
After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. This is normal. You can continue to ice or take tylenol to improve comfort.

The following week…
It is normal to remain swollen/bruised for 2-3 days…up to a week. Inform your provider if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site.

What to avoid…

Follow-up…
Plan to return for evaluation and repeat treatment in 30 days.

How long does it last?

When injected into fat under the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.

Who shouldn’t have Kybella®?

You should not have Kybella® if:

  • If you have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin
  • Have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area
  • Have had or have trouble swallowing
  • Have bleeding disorder
  • Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not known if KYBELLA® will harm your unborn baby)
  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed (it is not known if KYBELLA® passes into your breast milk)

What are the possible side effects?

KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site or trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. In clinical studies, nerve injury in the jaw resolved on its own in a median of 44 days (range of 1 to 298 days), and trouble swallowing resolved on its own in a median of 3 days (range of 1 to 81 days).

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. Visit www.mykybella.com for full prescribing indication including a full list of potential side effects.

How many treatments will I need?

Your MOBO provider will create a custom treatment plan based on your chin profile. Each treatment consists of multiple small injections approximately 1cm apart. Most patients need between 3-4 treatments, although it may take up to 6 treatments to get full results. Treatments are spaced 30 days apart.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for Kybella®?

Book a free consultation with a MOBO provider to discuss your specific anatomy, and to see if you’re a candidate. We evaluate the location of the submental fat (fat outside the muscle is treatable while submental fat that is behind the platysma muscle is not). We also look at any banding in the neck, the girth of the neck, hyoid bone placement, and other anatomical markers to determine candidacy.
